Sleep Habits x Halo®

This post is in collaborations with HALO® INNOVATIONS. I was sent the HALO® sleepsack swaddle and the HALO® sleepsack wearable blanket for a review. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Hello, welcome back!

Whether you are a new mom, second time Mom, Mom of a tribe, aunt, big sister, godmother...we should always practice safe sleep for our babies. Today I’m sharing a friendly reminder on how you can practice sleep habits that are safe with and for your baby.

• Back is Best. Always lay your baby to sleep on his back at nap-time and nighttime. Babies are at risk of suffocation when placed on their bellies.

• Use a new crib or bassinet. When selecting a crib or bassinet for your baby, make sure it meets all safety standards and has a firm mattress. Any soft surface can easily compromise the baby’s safety. • Only use one Sheet. Cribs and bassinets should only have a tight fitting sheet around the mattress. Extra items in the crib or bassinet can also lead to suffocation. • Nothing but the baby. Cribs are made for babies to sleep in, not to showcase toys, bumpers, pillows, or positioners. They can be a suffocation hazard for babies.

• No! to Loose Blankets. If your baby is not a fan of being swaddled, try a wearable blanket. Jonah loves the HALO Sleepsack Swaddle and his HALO SleepSack wearable blanket. As soon he’s swaddled he’s off to sleep peacefully. I love it because it replaces loose blankets in the crib which can compromise an infant’s breathing.

• Share your room, not your bed! Although it may seem that it’s easier to feed your baby when you are co-sleeping, the risks far outweigh the convenience. In fact the number one cause of death among babies up to four months of age. There are many options for keeping baby close and safe during the night, such as the HALO Bassinest swivel sleeper, a bassinet, cradle or portable crib. Those still allows you to keep your baby as close, but in his own safe sleep space.

• Avoid putting your baby to sleep on any soft surface such as adult beds, sofas, chairs, water beds, quilts, sheep skins. These are not safe for babies.

• Don’t overdress your baby. Avoid dressing your baby too warmly. Dress you baby lightly and keep the room temperature 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit. Skip anything bulky that can go near their face.

• Avoid leaving your LO sleeping in the car seat or stroller for long periods of time as this too can compromise baby’s breathing.
