5 Potty training incentives you need to consider for your kid

Everyone needs a little motivation from time to time including your potty training child. Incentives can often do the trick in helping your kid make the transition from diapers to regular underwear. Potty training can be difficult and it’s easy for your son/daughter to be discouraged. Here are five potty training *incentives you need to consider to help your little one stay motivated:

  1. Toys

Whether it’s dinosaurs or a yo-yo, chances are your child has a favorite toy. One idea is to have a potty training-specific bin of toys. When your kid has a successful day of making it to the bathroom in time, you can pull out the bin of toys for your kid to play with the rest of the day.

  1. A new book Is your child book lover? A new book or a quality story time session after several successful trips to the bathroom can help your child stay positive and happy. The book of choice does not need to be about potty training. It can be about anything from an alphabet book to a book about colorful birds.

  2. Time at the park

Did your little one successfully make it through three days free of any accidents? Go to the park for the afternoon and let your little one explore. If going to the park is what motivates your kid, use it to help him/her have something to work towards.

  1. A trip to the zoo

This incentive doesn’t have to be the zoo. It could be a trip to the museum or even a trade show. Did your kid make it through two weeks of no accidents? A visit to the zoo or someplace that taps into your child’s imagination and curiosity can help him/her stay motivated.

  1. Big kid underwear

Is the period of time your child is staying dry increasing? If so, take your kid to pick out a few pairs of big kid underwear. Let your child pick out underwear with fun designs. This will help your feel empowered because he/she is able to choose what he/she wears on a daily basis.

*Feel free to customize your potty training schedule and plan to your child’s readiness and rate of progress.
